Michael Patterson joined KUIC as a Licensing Associate in 2015. His responsibilities include evaluating new KU inventions for patentability and commercialization potential, marketing KU inventions to prospective licensees, negotiating licensing terms and drafting related agreements, and advising faculty members on intellectual property protection and commercialization matters. Michael serves faculty from various departments in the fields of engineering, physical sciences, and education.
After obtaining his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at KU, Michael spent several years working as an engineer in the custom architectural fabrication industry. His experience in technology and product development spurred an interest in business and intellectual property law. Michael interned at KUIC while earning his J.D. and M.B.A. degrees at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
